CONTINUUM

One step on the road to nowhere
One foot forward is a foot behind
It’s never enough to see beyond
the contracts that we sign.

It’s a sandpaper slippery-slide
straight into the mind,
where nothing escapes
and nothing’s left behind.

We all share this space and time:
what’s mine is yours and yours is mine,
but no-one sees the man inside,
no-one knows the one who’s cried.

Time heals all:
It’s what they say,
to ease the burden of reality.
It’s what they say
to ignore the continuum.
Time heals all.

Conveyor belts with blank-faced men,
seeing all that’s never been.
They’ve done too much, or fight the pain
of broken days and darkened dreams.

Where does the road end?
Where’s my horizon?
And where does my foot fall now?

And if time heals all,
then where are the cell walls?
Where does the past begin?

Time heals all:
That’s what they say
to ease the burden of guilt.
Time heals all,
or so they say,
but there are no walls
in this continuum.

Can a thought bring peace?
Can a man find freedom?

I turn to You, God:
Forgiver of sins,
Restorer of Hope,
Liberty’s Key,
Saviour of Thieves,
Shadow Vanquisher,
Father of Peace,
My Righteousness,
My Rock.

For none can raze the walls of guilt
and raise the tower of strength,
but You, and You alone, oh Mighty One.

One step on the road to nowhere,
One foot forward takes me there.
Time heals all
is what I say.

Continuum of a broken life
Leads me to a higher thought
Of love in this continuum
