Empty Hallways

Passing you in the halls
Trying to never meet your eyes
Yet stealing secret glances
Praying to God you’ll notice me one more time

We’re empty inside
Just like these hollow hallways
You’ll always deny
But you’re suffocating under hidden grief

The colors in your eyes fade
As you sit with your friends
Laughing that fake laugh
Isolated inside yourself

Your mind weaves patterns of memories behind your eyes
Begging you to never leave me alone
You grasp them around their throats
Swearing that time will kill them after all

But time could never destroy
The memories that consume us both
Running through our veins with desperate speed
Violently fighting your denial

And I am here still waiting
Watching you try and chase the blood from your veins
But the memories remain
Encoded into skin and soul

Days will pass and summer will come
And no longer will you be able to hide
You’ll fight for air, but soon you’ll learn
I’m the only one who can bring you back to life
