I Could Give A Better Answer

I don't know how to answer,

When they ask how long it's been.

I guess it all depends.

I don't know how to answer,

When they ask this about you.

Has it been four years, or two?

I'd do better with an answer,

If I knew just what they meant.

If they had more words spent.

I'd do better with an answer,

If they could be a bit clear,

About a topic I hold so dear.

I could give a better answer,

If they ask how long you've been in the ground,

Instead of how long it's been since you were around.

I could give a better answer,

If they ask how long it's been since you were lucid.

But who am I to kid?

I'll give a not-quite response,

When they as for the duration of my loss.

My smile every-ready,

I'll try to keep my heartbeat steady,

I could give a better answer,

If they ask a better question.

I'm not sure where this came from...too many lunch hours alone I guess.

Review?
