Chapter 8
The Kelley family never ever recovered from that night, nor spoke of it again. They didn't speak to anyone, let alone each other in fact for weeks, until Mr. Kelley finally broke the terrible silence one morning at breakfast to say that Beaumont Abbey was going to be auctioned off, and that Mrs. Kelley looked beautiful in her new dress.
Amelia became a little less trusting than she used to be around men. She hardly ever flirted as much as she used to, unless she found that she really liked the boy in question, which was rare. She began focusing more on her intelligence than on marriage and men, for each time she heard that a nice young couple was married, she thought back to Captain Fintmord's all of the sudden proposal, and became sick.
Lisa stayed out of trouble more often than she used to. Instead of causing mischief, she decided she wanted to write books, and stories, only for her own entertainment, however. She wouldn't ever show them to anyone, but would keep them in a wooden box under her bed for her to glance at from time to time. After learning that Beaumont Abbey was for sale, she decided that no matter how sick it made her, she would put the terrible experience on paper for some great grandchild to read one day.
It started out like this:
The citizens of Bordeaux took great pains to avoid straying near Beaumont Abbey behind the outskirts of the city...
It wasn't easy work, but somehow, Lisa was able to tell the entire story about a mischievous , a daunting cannibal, and a dark, yet handsome Abbey Where Nobody Goes.
