The End Of The World

Version 1

You stumble upon the end of the world, and you’ve witnessed wonders upon wonders, and you’ve met people not like people and you’ve sung their song and ate their food and you’ve danced their dance, and you’ve kissed their red, full lips, and you find that dreams are just dreams after all when you blink open your eyes, and see white, white sky and you smell the smell of something so awfully, painfully wrong.

It’s a miracle Doctor! You hear, and you see the beginning of the end. You close your eyes, and wish, wish, wish. When to bleed again?

Version 2

You stumble upon the end of the world one day. And you see the end unfold around you, and the beginning peeking just around the corner, smiling, winking at you. You see people, people like faeries, like elves, like nothing you have ever seen before. You laugh and you cry and you touch their soft, soft skin, and it’s a dream come true. They’re here, they’re now, and you’re there.

You dance their dance, you sing their songs, you eat their food, and you kiss their full red lips, and you’re drunk with pleasure. So much pleasure and you spin, spin, spin. The world revolves around you now, and you sing, and you dance, and you laugh and laugh and laugh.

You sleep that night, underneath the stars with the hymn of Heaven in your ears. La La La La Dee Da. You stare into deep gold eyes of another, you hold their hand in yours, and you smile. Love, you think, love has never been any sweeter than this. Your heart is bursting, bursting and your lips are graced with a sad, sad smile. Because you know, you remember, dreams, dreams are beautiful dangerous things.

Morning comes, and with it, you breathed in new life. You are at the end of the world, you see the beginning of the world, you see all around. You are alive. But in the end, you bid them farewell and its best not to see them ever, ever again. Maybe one day you will. But not now. Not now.

You close your eyes, and you open your eyes, and you see white white white sky and the smell of antiseptic in the air. Doctor! It’s a miracle! A miracle!

Because when you meet them again, you’re already dead.

And then, you’ll stay forever.

EndNote: Let’s just say, reading Neil Gaiman’s short works always inspires me to write something weird. I daresay this ain’t my best effort, nor one that make sense, but I had to write something down. And all that was in my mind was something that goes like, You’ve had fun, you’ve laughed, and you’ve cried. But in the end, home was the best place to be, and you never, ever want to go back again. You never ever want to see them ever again. It was also due to the return of friends who went to NS that made me think about this.
