Amber Joy Star
Chapter One
Katie can't remember her past, yet is constantly haunted by it. Between foreboding nightmares and strange appearences, her life is never the same again as she struggles to remember what has been lost to her for so long.
A young girl with bronze colored hair was staring gloomily out her window. Her hazel eyes watched as the rain fell from the cloud covered sky. She turned her gaze away from the window and leaned against the side of the window seat. Then her eyelids grew heavy and she fell asleep.
"Wh-where am I?" She mumbled. She was standing on a marble balcony that over looked a small city. Beyond the city were scattered farms and fields.
"Why, Princess! It's been so long!" A hissing voice sneered. She turned around, her shoulder length hair swung into her face.
"Who are you? Show yourself!" She said, trying to keep her voice from wavering.
"You don't remember? Well, that's a shame." The voice replied sarcastically. A shadowed figure appeared in front of her. She started to scream.
"We shall meet again, Princess Amber Joy. And you will remember." It hissed before she fainted.
She woke up on the wooden floor of her bedroom.
'Must've fallen off.' She thought. 'Why'd it call me Princess? And, my name isn't Amber Joy.' But something nagged at the back of her mind that made her wonder, 'Is it?'
"Kat? Katie, is something wrong?!" Asked a caring and apprehensive voice. Katie looked up from the ground and saw her mother standing in the doorway.
"No, nothing Mom." She said, getting off the ground. "Just a little nightmare."
"Okay, well Sam's here." Her mother said, breathing a sigh of immense relief and disappearing down the stairs. Katie grabbed her umbrella and quickly ran a brush through her hair before dashing through her door and barreling down the stairs.
"Hey Sam." Katie greeted her friend. Samantha was a tall, ivory skinned girl with straight black hair that reached her mid back.
"Man, you must've had some nightmare. I was about to run up there and see if you were being murdered." She joked.
"Gee, I didn't know you cared." Katie said dryly, her eyes sparkling with humor.
"Oh come on, we're going to miss the movie!" Sam grabbed her friend's arm and they ran out the front door, with Katie's mother calling after them.
"Be careful! Don't talk to strangers!" She yelled before retreating back into the house.
Sundays were the girls' movie days. They were regular customers at the theatre and knew every single employee.
"Good afternoon Sam, Katie." Said a boy with messy brown hair, seeming to be in his teens.
"Same to you, Thomas." Katie teased, looking at his name tag. Tom winced.
"Which movie will it be today Katelyn?" Tom teased back. Katie started laughing.
"Just surprise us, we've seen most of them already." Sam answered for her friend. He gave them their usual drinks and popcorn before handing them a couple tickets.
"Third one on the right." He said as they walked away.
"I've seen that movie seven times and it still makes me cry!" Katie complained as they exited the theatre.
"You're a wimp." Sam said. She glared at Sam and wiped her eyes.
"Come on, my mom will have a heart attack if we don't get home soon." Katie replied sourly and they opened up their umbrellas as they sloshed through puddles on their way toward Katie's house.
Katie was letting her mind wander as she walked. she looked around and noticed the park, and her eyes were drawn to an ordinary oak tree.
A little girl was skipping through a magnifiscent garden when she paused by an oak tree. She sat down and started humming. Suddenly a shadowed figure appeared and approached her. The girl screamed as the figure extended its hand until it was touching her forehead. She seemed to fade, almost, and then she fell to the ground. Then a white horse like figure appeared and barreled into the shadow--
Katie almost stumbled into the road, but Sam grabbed her arm and held her steady.
"You okay Kat?" She asked, concern vivid in her electric blue eyes.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little dizzy." Katie replied.
"Alright, well come on. I think I hear your mom calling the police, FBI CIA, and the president's secret service." Sam joked as she pulled Katie up the steps.
'This is so weird.' Katie thought as she walked into the living room.
"Katie, my dear!" Her mom gushed as she suffocated her daughter. "What took you so long?"
"It's not fun to run home in the rain, Mom." She said, annoyed. "I have a headache, later Sam."
"Later." Sam exited the house as Katie sprinted up the stairs before her mom could say anything more.
She collapsed onto her bed and sighed. Everything seemed so fuzzy and she could hardly think.
'Okay, think childhood memories.' But, for the first time, Katie realized that she couldn't remember anything about her past up until her seventh birthday.
"Not a single thing!" She exclaimed and sat up.
