Toby always loved clouds. I remember sunny afternoons of years gone when he and I would just lie on the grass and watch the wondrous formations for hours on end. Not only were the clouds rabbits, dragons, knights on horses, but they would always have a story. Toby and I could imagine whole worlds just from those fluffy sky sponges. And that's how I remember him; from those days in the sun.
The day it happened, I awoke feeling something was wrong. Later, the tearful moans of Toby's early and accidental passing that echoed through the phone line struck me like an arrow to the chest. The house felt too cold, and I was pulled outside by the comforting haze of sunlight. As I stepped into my backyard, I chanced a look into the Heavens, and sought solace from above.
The shock that painted its way across my face when I turned my gaze skyward was dynamic. Toby had gone and it was as if Mother Nature knew, taking away also the thing he most loved in this world, just for the afternoon; It would have been a picture perfect day, if it wasn't for the cloudless sky.
