PROLOGUE

I knew what he wanted before he made any move towards me. I looked in those dark inhumanly beautiful eyes and a shiver racked through my body. He was run of the mill, dime a dozen, and generic for such a beautiful type of creature. And I wouldn’t be once he changed me; I would be powerful and beautiful, an asset to his coven.

All I could think about was how glad I was that he found me in the middle of my large yard rather than when I was with him, when my parents were away on business to Portland. He would try to fight him and get torn to shreds, even of his brothers were at his side. And maybe somehow I could break from this savage’s hold and find him one day. I could only hope.

I only wished I had a chance to write him at least a goodbye letter or one last kiss to tide me over for the years until I found him. I prayed he wouldn’t get himself and his brothers involved. The danger was too great and they weren’t even changed yet; I wasn’t worth it.

I watched a smirk emerge on the mercenary that came to steal me away from my parents and the boy who made me happy for once face. I bent to grab the fallen branch at my feet. I looked up avoiding his eyes; I didn’t want to hear his thoughts ever. A full fledged smile was on his face now as he began his slow predatory walk revealing two rows of pure white, almost silver teeth.

“Sweetheart, you can put that stick right back down. You can’t hurt me and I won’t hurt you if you don’t put up a fight,” he said in a slow drawl that made my skin crawl, “But I’m not afraid to hurt you. I know just how to cause you pain that won’t mess up that pretty little face of yours or kill you. Don’t make this difficult. You wouldn’t want me to involve any unnecessary parties.”

I looked away from a moment down to my feeble attempt at self defense and he was in front of me. I gasped; his pale perfect features twisted into a malicious sneer. He reached around and gave me a firm push on the back of my neck. Consciousness was quickly slipping away from me but not before I saw an alabaster arm and leg extending from the dense brush behind what had come to be my home.

The last image I was left with was the hunter’s back as he ran to whoever was coming out of the forest. That was when I blacked out.
