Chapter 05. Evacuation

Zack stood up and walked over to the man waiting by the communicator. Sabin talked to Hayden.

"I'm sorry about what had happened on Visoff, mate. Lieutenant Brown found Garry Morre a day after the battle. He said you were on the ship when it blew up."

"I was... I have the chip still... it's in my left leg data block... The password is 'Diana'... I want you to get all the information on the Called... then I want you to des-" Hayden stopped as he fell unconscious, as his blood kept flowing onto the ground. Two medic's walked in and saw him, and told Sabin to move. Then they started working on him right there.

Sabin walked over to Zack who was on hold, waiting to talk to someone. Watching the medic's work on Hayden till someone finally answered. It was Derrick.

"Derrick, this is an emergency. We are trapped on the planet Bon-Ti. We have General Adamsky. But he is in a bad state, we have medic's working on him now. But we need a ship, quickly. Some of the men are already frozen dead." Derrick told him that calls were already going to General Denison. They were preparing a ship for him. Then Zack told him about the fifty so orc ships. Derrick told him not to worry. Then they closed connections. Then Zack walked over to Sabin as he, Sabin, was getting the chip out. He held it up to look at it more closely.

"I wonder how much information is on here. It's so small, as small as a American quarter. Have you ever seen a American quarter. There's one in my bank account. I'll show it to you when we get back to Neon."

"We need to climb up the mountain. Derrick told me that we need to get higher. He said there is a man that actuality lives here, on this planet. I would hate living here. Clark, can you find a hovercraft for General Adamsky? We need to get him onto it."

Brent Clark, a halfling, went out of the room and came back five minutes later with three men and a craft, which was like a table with iron like seat belts. that buckle the injured person down. They loaded the unconscious Hayden on, and carried him out. Zack went over to the mega-com. So that he could talk to everyone on board the ship.

"Soldiers, Mariners. All of you need to report to the ship hanger. Leave anyone that is dead. But grab their data cubes, which is inside their left side pocket. I will not repeat. Get to the ship hanger.

"Sabin, Parkenson, Ruben. Come on we need to report to the ship hanger."

They left the room and followed the men with Hayden down the hall-walk. Turning a corner and then going through a door, they were in the hanger. General Malor, went over to a half-giant.

"Head count?"

"Bout' three undred-twenty seven, sire."

"Oh boy. Alright I'll talk to them.

Soldiers, Mariners. We have contacted the headquarters'. They are bringing a ship, but we need to climb the mountain. There's a man that lives on the mountain that knows the army. So we only need to climb about one thousand feet. So we need to get climbing gear, and get dressed warmly. Which I see some of you have already have. Those who don't need warm gear, such as some of you fauns, and satyrs, you should still be dressed warmly. That is all. I'll see you all in thirty minutes outside." Zack dismissed the men, and walked to his room. He pulled his warm one-piece suit. Grabbed his guns, which is a gattling harpoon gun, a automatic shotgun bolter, and then he grabbed his climbing gear. He walked out of the room and walked toward the door. Dozens of soldiers were crowding the exit- way. He pulled out his shotgun and blasted a hole through the wall of the ship, and walked out. Some of the soldiers did the same thing. Quickly they were outside in the cold. Already the ship was covered in snow. There was two hovercrafts holding Hayden and Marcos. After thirty minutes Zack walked over to the half-giant. "Fred, head count." "Same as before, bout' three undred-twenty seven, sire." "Alright. It seems that everyone is here. Alright let's get to the man's house. Forward march." Slowly the men trudged through the snow. But some forgot to dress up warmly, and they froze up. Finally after fifty men fell into the snow, some of the warmer men started getting cold. Zack could feel cold coming over him. They had started climbing the mountain five minutes ago, but yet to everyone it felt like forever. It was going slow only because of Marcos and Hayden. Within ten minutes of climbing Hayden woke up, feeling a little better, but a little cold. Sabin tried to keep him quiet but he told Sabin that he was slowing everyone else down. And that they should leave him here, Marcos was also awake and said the same thing. But the soldiers wouldn't hear of it. Fifteen minutes of climbing, Zack could feel his hands freezing, so could about everyone else. The fauns and satyrs had already climbed up the mountain, and were helping others up. Soon Zack was almost up, then he called up to some fauns to pull Marcos and Hayden up, which they did. Then Zack looked at his left-hand fingers. They were the color blue. "Frostbite. Blast. But I think I can make I-." he said to himself. He was cut short by a scream of terror. He looked down and could see a soldier falling of the mountain, the soldier fell through the whiteness, and disappeared. Zack looked back up, he had forty feet left to climb. Then he heard another scream, followed by another. Zack looked down. He guessed that the two soldiers that were climbing together, and one fell pulling the other one. But Zack looked back up. He couldn't look down, he couldn't see his soldiers freeze and die. He thought. "Just thirty more feet. Thirty." Then another scream. "Twenty." Then his fingers started shaking, then his body. He gasped, he was going to fall soon. "Just fifteen more feet. NOO!!" He let go, and fell. But something grabbed his right arm. He was hanging in the air. He looked up, and saw a soldier bundled up, so he couldn't see his face. "Come on, General. You need to make it up the mountain. I need to make it up too. I have a sister waiting for me at Neon. Let's go." Zack looked up and saw that he only fell about twenty feet. Finally he and the soldier made it to the top. The soldier left him and walked toward a giant house. He turned and helped another soldier up. He only saw five more men climbing. They made it and they walked to the house. This house was big. Just through the front doors, which were ten feet high, was a hall. This hall was the size of a room that could sit about two hundred people. Zack looked for Sabin, Hayden, and Fred. Finally he found them, and called for a attention. The soldiers lined up. After five minutes Zack walked over to Fred. "Head count." "Bout' one undred ten, sire." "One hundred ten? We came with five hundred men. Which means we've lost three hundred ninety!" Then he turned to the remaining soldiers, and said. "I would like the soldier who caught me on the mountain to step forward. Come up here so I can see you. You never told me your name." A soldier walked up, still bundled up. Then he pulled his mask off. "I'm Corporal Jonathan Lloyd, sir. I am the one who caught you. My friend had fallen off the mountain five minutes before you fell. When I saw you up ahead I saw your body trembling, just like my friend was. So I made sure I was right below you if you fell." Zack dismissed them and turned away. The old man came through a sliding door. "I've made some food for all of the Army of Neon." The soldiers walked through the door, and went into the next room. Zack turned to Hayden and Sabin. "I can't fell my left arm at all. That's why I fell. That young man, it's a good thing he was there." "Let me see your arm." The old man reached out, and grabbed Zack's arm. He rolled up the sleeve. The arm was the color's blue, purple, and black.
