Ode to an Orange

Your thick skin’s made up,
Of plateaus, mountains, and curves.
Dented with little dimples,
And slightly prolonged wrinkles.

Your textured surface is flawed
With trivial indents and bruises.
You are exceedingly orange in hue,
Like the sun as it sets
Or as bright as blooming flowers,
Dappled with miniscule dots.

Inside of you is a saccharine juice,
that fills me with content.
Why it is pure summer in a bite
Or a warm autumn night.
Your beginnings lie in the grove,
Where the trees roots lie far and deep.
So that this place in the earth,
it will always keep.

The tree you adorned,
With verdant leaves and white blossoms,
Guarded you with foliage and thorns.
And as you grew,
You went through changes no one knew.

From green and pungent,
to orange and sweet,
all before your strenuous trip
With Granny Smith and Red Delicious,
From Australia to the palatial USA
How did it feel to be chosen?

And to be part of the merry quintet?
Two apples, two oranges
Don’t forget you!
That all made their way into my mother’s somber grocery cart.

A/N: So, I just edited this poem a bit. Please keep reviewing! Special thanks to everyone who has reviewed so far (midnight in eden, simpleplan13, Kiss.Today.Goodbye, & Tranquil Thorns) I deleted some the poem due to reviewers thinking it was boring. I just figured out the whole format thing too! Woohoo!
