The sun-stilted shoreline is

glittering—

the briny depths of my heart are

tittering.

Your summer dress is flowing into the wind,

the flower print lost in the breeze.

Dancing with ease,

grace,

and a smile.

-

We’re deserting Allison

because she’s waiting on a miracle.

She’s waiting for a change.

She’s breaking away from Saturday nights

and sequin and rhinestone sin.

-

The sound of the tide is ringing in our ears,

and the sand beneath our backs is like cotton.

When the cotton is high, and the blue sky

is filled with song,

that’s when I’ll come back to you.

-

We’re deserting Allison,

because she’s waiting on a miracle.

She’s waiting for a change.

She’s broken away from family traditions

and weekend smiles.

-

Through the window, love,

that’s no way to view it.

Come back to me, dear,

and I’ll expose you to it.

Through the window, the sea,

that’s no way to view it.

Come down to me, baby,

and I bet I’ll lose you to it.

-

When the cotton is high,

and the sky is still filled with song,

that’s when I’ll come back to you.
