In Memoriam: Heath Ledger

By: Enelya Wood

On that bitter January day

Cinema bled at the loss of part of it soul.

it watched the headline “Actor Found Dead”

etch itself across media outlets

scrutinizing, publicizing, broadcasting

the death of pure talent.

Search engines hummed disbelief

and chat rooms stammered bewilderment

in a vain struggle to find the answer

to a simple question,

why?

Though it was accidental,

with rest the intended result,

he became yet another casualty in

the unending battle of the prescriptions.

The rigors of notoriety claim their latest victim.

Shying away from the glaring eye of celebrity,

nearly dodging the destructive bullet of fame

he found shelter in privacy and

solace in the tender folds of family.

never loosing that spark, that inner self,

within the fray of stardom.

Immortalized by his characters

he leaves a intrepid handprint in the sand of society,

for whether its Patrick or Gabriel, Sonny or Skip,

Casanova or Robbie, Ennis or The Joker,

his impact extends across the vast seas of culture

connecting with people, bridging gaps.

Scaling over society’s social barriers,

inspiriting poignant characters of substance,

his talent was a flowing spring of amazing abilities

that was left unappreciated till it was stunted

by the premature dam of death.

On that crisp January day

the World endured the loss of an individual.

The title “Remembering Late Actor.”

prominently displayed across media outlets

remembering, grieving, honoring,

the death of pure talent,

the death of Heath Ledger.
