Maskless

I show the world a mask,

Because I’m afraid.

Afraid of what people will think,

If they know who I truly am inside.

What would I do without the mask?

I’d hide and cower in fear,

But I would try to shed no tears.

But if people know the truth,

I might have a chance at happiness.

For the fact is that I am weak.

My outer shell looks hard and impenetrable,

But at my core, I am a geek.

Without my mask,

I hurt, cry, and die.

Without my mask I’d be every-bodies fool.

But I’ll survive another day of hiding,

I’ll keep the mask on,

And pray to God that one day,

Just one day, I’d be able to remove the mask.

A.N. I just felt like writing about how I feel at school, using my mask as my shield from hurt.
