Little Things

It’s all the little things that make me love you:

The way your head is cradled in your hand,

the rainbows that you doodle on your paper,

the way you turn your head, the way you stand.

Your lips are full and glistening as you speak,

your voice is bright with confidence and grace.

A chess player, a journalist, a poet,

with strength and kindness in your vivid face.

You changed my universe with simple words.

You’re someone I look forward to each day.

I search for you in every face I see

and something in me cracks when you’re away.

I wish that you could hear me when I call,

hold out your hands and catch me when I fall.
