we were seventeen

remember those hellogoodbye days
when we sang and laughed
and gave our hearts away so easily
when all our hurts could be mended
by a trip to barnes and noble
and a chocolate frappuccino
when we drew flowers on our homework
and penned teenage secrets
on the pages of those journals
that were so envied by other girls
and we wore skirts with our converse
and we stood out in the crowd

remember those hellogoodbye days
when that electronic powerpop beat
was the driving pulse behind
our lives and our dreams
(and we were seventeen)
