The Princess of Arania gazed out of her bedroom window. She longed to go outside and mingle with the people out in the small city's streets. To go out just once without an escort was what she wanted. Though, such hopes were useless. Not as long as her parents could help it. Princess Kaitlin turned her head towards the door when she heard it creak open slowly. The court mage, Gabrielle, stepped into the room. She was in her usual red and black dress. Gabrielle was a skilled mage at all magic, but her specialties were wind and water. Behind her stood Samuel, a warrior of noble birth who wielded a halberd. He was in his usual black and gold armor, which officially showed the authority he held in the castle. He also happened to be Princess Kaitlin's betrothed. His blue eyes lit up when he saw Kaitlin in the beautiful white dress he had given her recently. Rudely pushing Gabrielle aside, earning him a steely glare from her, he went over to the princess and took her hand.
"I'm so sorry about the lecture you're about to get," he said, throwing a grin in Gabrielle's direction.
The princess raised an eyebrow and looked over Samuel's shoulder at the mage. She had taken a seat on Kaitlin’s lavish red sofa on the opposite side of the room from the door. She had done so when someone else had walked into the room. It was a dark haired youth with a very serious expression. He was wearing a black and blue suit of armor. Upon entering, he looked around the room. Spotting Gabrielle, he scowled. She smirked and waved at him. David was Samuel's partner and friend. He wasn't very fond of Gabrielle and made it as obvious as possible. What she did to land on his bad side, no one knew.
"Princess," Gabrielle said, turning her attention to the seventeen year old," Must you attempt to ditch any escort assigned to you? It’s dangerous out there. You're not making their job very easy for them. The last guard, you pushed him into the river. Now...was that really necessary?"
"Please call me Kaitlin. You know that."
Kaitlin sighed and walked over to Gabrielle and bowed her head regretfully.
"I'm very sorry for making things hard for you, but it’s so annoying being followed all the time."
Gabrielle stood up and placed a hand on her shoulder. Kaitlin looked up at Gabrielle's grinning face.
"You have really left me no choice, Kaitlin. Samuel and David will have to be your escorts from now on since you seem to have a problem with the regular guards. Now, you know how much I hate this choice because I know how they are as well as you do,” Gabrielle said, throwing both males a warning glance,” I'm just sure you won't push your intended into anything nor try to ditch him, am I correct?"
Kaitlin nodded, enthusiastically.
“Thank you. I promise that I will behave myself as long as they are my escorts.”
Gabrielle nodded and moved towards the door.
“I hope so. Remember that I’ll be watching you.”
As she walked out the door, she stopped and turned to David. He eyed her warily. She smiled brightly at him and left. David turned back to Kaitlin and Samuel. He was confused to see them trying to stifle laughter.
“What?” he asked, curiously.
Samuel took Kaitlin’s hand and kissed it.
“I’ll see you later.”
He walked over to David, smiling. Samuel pointed down at David’s feet. Looking down, David’s anger started to boil. He hadn’t noticed, but Gab had used an ice spell to attach him to the ground.
“That witch!”
He quickly bent down and used a fire spell to melt the ice. He bowed quickly to Kaitlin before marching out of the room, his wet shoes squeaking as he walked. Samuel chuckled, bowed to Kaitlin, and then left the princess giggling to herself.
