“Sir, what do you want me to do?” It’s dark in the room. Everything hidden in the sheer pitch black. She felt something being placed in her hands.
“Kill them.” She looked up and suddenly a harsh light filled the room. The uzi nearly dropped from her hands. There were people crying and screaming and they were all stuffed into one big cage. She could see them through the bars. All calling out to her, their hands reaching for her. Save us. It was on each of their lips, all of them screaming and praying. She looked back at the man behind her. The man with the dark goggles and the rose red lips.
“Sir?”, she asked again. Please answer me differently, she begs him silently.
“Kill them.” She lifted her uzi and switched it to automatic. Save us. She sighted down the barrel, at all the screaming people. Save us. She hesitated, her finger hovering on the trigger. She felt the man behind her.
“I said to kill them, soldier.” Save us! She began to shake and the uzi wavered in her grasp. The man bellowed in her ear,
“KILL THEM!” SAVE US. She shook her head and felt tears fall down her face. Her voice trembled as she whispered,
“I can’t think with all this shouting.” She suddenly felt a clammy hand on her shoulder and a cold whisper in her ear,
“Then shut them up.” She sighted down her barrel again and looked at all the swarming people. All of them screaming. Screaming, all screaming. SAVE US!!
“SHUT UP!” She pulled the trigger and the screaming was drowned in gunfire. When the noise ended and the tip of her uzi was smoking and the blood was flowing under the bars, coming to rest at her feet, she realized what she had done. She fell to her knees, the uzi dropping from her nerveless fingers into the blood.
“That will do soldier.” She looked up at the man with dead eyes. The Silence was far more horrible then the screaming.
