Close your dreaming eyes and rest
While salt-winds sigh and shadows sway
The ships are sailing from the west.

Let sleep enfold you in her nest
While skies run wide and seas turn gray
Close your dreaming eyes and rest.

The waves are wild; you’ve done your best
They froth their foam against the bay
The ships are sailing from the west.

They brave the waves and run abreast
While storm-gales howl and toss cold spray
Close your dreaming eyes and rest.

Against the gray will climb her crest
Beneath pale stars she threads her way –
The ships are sailing from the west.

Weep not, my child; she’s done her quest
Let salt-winds sweep your fears astray;
Close your dreaming eyes and rest
The ships are sailing from the west.
