Miss Solitary Love

Miss Solitary Love

Lily clutched her folder to her chest and with a sigh followed her friends out of the library to the field. Sitting on the grass, she flipped her walkman on from within her bag and began her English coursework.

"Lily are you working? Come on its lunchtime and its sunny!" protested Luna, her brown haired friend.

Lily nodded and made a motion to turn her walkman up, 'Swing, Swing' was currently blasting when Lisa stopped her.

"You're working too hard and its only October, just relax for a bit, get some sun whilst the weathers nice," she added.

"But there's I.T. and biology coursework to do as well," babbled Lily.

"So? A few minutes won't matter," Luna smirked and lay down on the grass.

Lily joined her and adjusted her mini, black skirt. Her black hair tumbled over her pale face highlighting her grey eyes. She wore a black, v-neck jumper over a white shirt with the school's regulation blue and black tie. Black, black, black was everything about Lily from her black hair to her black tights and black, chunky shoes.

Luna wore a pink sweatshirt over her shirt and tie, choosing baggy black trousers over her usual mini skirt however Lisa wore just her shirt and mini skirt, detesting all coats and jackets.

They were nicknamed the three L's but Lily was the most talked about from her skinny body to her eyes but she seemed to shrink away from everyone bar her two best friends. She was the top of her classes plus the year and seemed to spend every minute studying or reading with earphones thudding in her ears.

The bell signalled the end of lunch and Lily's friends jumped up before her.

"Oh come on you're always late," sighed Luna, kicking Lily's bag lightly to make the badges rattle.

She followed them to form registration, continuing to listen to her music, sometimes humming along. Luna and Lisa noticed the looks Lily gathered from the Sixth Form guys also from some guys in their year.

"Do you think she knows?" whispered Luna.

"Probably not, you still having that sleepover tonight?" whispered Lisa back.

"Of course and the studious one finally agreed after heavy begging. Big girly chat methinks," giggled Luna.

After answering their names in form the girls went to French and Maths, with all three of them being the bane of their math's teacher's life. Walking home after school they walked to Lily's house first where Lily's mother gave them drinks as Lily got her things ready. She spent most of the time choosing CD's out of her immense collection which if wasn't in CD racks lining one wall they were in piles on her floor and her bed.

"I had a hard time choosing which ones to take to school today," Lily admitted sheepishly to the shocked pair.

"There's must be about three hundred CDs here!" exclaimed Lisa.

"Um 566 at the moment," corrected Lily.

"566!" gasped Lisa.

"My brother's in a band remember, he gives me all the CDs he gets plus his friends do. And I pick up extra ones at gigs, so I get to be ahead of the music game," explained Lily.

Lisa rummaged through the CD racks, exclaiming or nodding at the titles while Lily finished packing her backpack. Next stop was Lisa's and both her parents were still out at work with her younger brother engrossed with cartoons in the living room.

Lily and Luna trundled into the kitchen to sit at the breakfast bar as Lisa grabbed her things from upstairs. They came across her older brother who sat engrossed in a magazine sat at the table, smiling at the two younger girls. Lisa ran in and opened a cupboard, grabbing as much chocolate as she could handle.

"Woah Lisa leave some for the starving, growing boys," complained Cei, running his hands through his spiky hair.

"Oh be quiet. You guys have enough crisps and pizza to last you through the winter and why are you acting all nervous?" frowned Lisa.

"I'm not!" Cei blushed, hiding behind his music magazine.

"Is it because Lily is here on her rare visits? Pray tell?" sang Lisa.

Lily paled further and began pulling CD's out of her shoulder bag, fumbling around to get out of the conversation.

"Well she does need a boyfriend and you're only a year older," considered Luna.

"I do not need a boyfriend," scowled Lily.

"Why not?" questioned Luna.

"Because I don't need one, I have my studies and my music plus what is the point? Being all happy and loved up pfft. I'm happy enough on my own and always have been," answered Lily defiantly.

"You don't believe in love then?" smiled Cei.

"Nope," replied Lily shaking her head.

"Good girl I knew you were different from these two," laughed Cei leaving the room.

"You don't believe in love?" gasped Luna.

"Didn't I just say so," moaned Lily.

"But love is everything school girls complain and live for," spluttered Lisa.

"No its not," began Lily, "You only think it is. I'm not arguing with you two this is just what I think."

Luna and Lisa looked at each other and sighed. The three heading to Luna's, arms linked arguing over which movies to watch.

Placing the chocolate into her mouth, Lily winced as Luna attacked her eyebrows. Lisa laid sprawled across the floor, nibbling on pizza and reading a magazine.

"Lily I know you hate love you are doing this test," she vowed.

Five minutes later, Luna and Lisa were laughing and Lily was sitting in the chair red faced and clutching the magazine angrily.

"Loved up chic eh?" giggled Lisa.

Lily buried her face in the magazine and sank to the floor hiding underneath one of the many quilts.

Luna's room was larger than Lily's with purple walls and a double bed set in the middle covered in a purple bedspread. The window looked out onto back garden showing swings and a small pool now covered over.

They finally settled down to watch a movie before they took their various places in Luna's bed. Luna and Lisa slept at the head of the bed whilst Lily slept at the end of the bed, curled into a ball with her CD walkman playing quietly.

Luna woke up first, yawning and stretching to see Lisa asleep with her blonde curls covering her face. Lily's black hair sprawled across the pillow and her cheeks in a rosy blush.

Luna's own dark brown hair was kinked due to sleep and she lightly got out of bed to start getting ready for school.

She remembered memories of the three at various parties and nights out in the town. Lily when exuberated always pulled the prettiest guy in the place. Usually the various older sixth form guys from the town's schools and colleges. Lisa was the one most likely in a relationship, obsessed with crushes and putting people together. She currently fancied Lily's brother friend, who was the drummer in his band, much to Lily's horror.

Checking the time, Lisa awoke her friends with hour and half to go before school started. Lily straightened her friend's hair as Luna dressed.

"It's not fair!" pouted Luna.

"What?" asked Lisa pulling on her flat, brown, knee-length boots.

"Her hair is perfectly straight naturally, she's skinny and has all the guys ogling and fawning over her," Luna whined in reply, adjusting her tie in the mirror.

"They do not and my hair is not perfect!" retorted Lily.

"You are and they do not Lily, you're just what the guys want. We're just the bystanders as they fawn over perfect Miss Studious," explained Lisa.

Lily gaped at her, her pink lips forming a perfect 'O' as the words hit her.

"Fine you know what Lily, we're going to pick out a guy for you, who will ask you out on a date and you will say yes," ordered Luna.

"What?" roared Lily, stepping into her high, heeled shoes.

"Then you can have a real relationship and we can finally get a chance at the male population," grinned Lisa.

"I hate you both," growled Lily.

"Love you Lily," replied Luna and Lisa in unison their minds thinking of the various guys they had come into contact with lately.

"You'll see Lily in school, we'll show you exactly what we mean," smiled Luna picking up her school bag.

Frowning Lily faced her friends and followed them out of the house, her headphones in their usual place around her neck.

"I don't think I like this idea," she muttered.

"You don't like it yet, darling," Lisa smiled and held her friend's hand on the way school.
