A poem I wrote for my boyfriend for Valentine's Day 2007. It carries on from a poem that he wrote me in 2004. This poem means a lot to me, and I've already given it to him- so I can't make changes to his copy, but I'd love to get people's opinion of my work. The best way to improve is to build on past mistakes, after all. :)

Dreamers

I dreamed a dream, I dreamed of you,

To be precise- us dreamers two.

There was a park near filled with trees,

And there we strolled amongst the breeze.

We held hands and shared a happy smile,

And lingered ‘neath the sun a while.

The many wrinkles on our cheeks were there

Because of lives we’d lived without a care.

Wrinkles show where laughter’s been,

And where smiles have grown of things we’ve seen.

Even though it was a dream, I’d never remarked

Upon a pair so old, so worn, so truly marked

By a lifetime lived with a love so keen,

And smiles so quick, and humor preened.

A pair that’s lived from day to day,

With smiles to keep the shade away.

I stopped this pair as they walked past,

And with a heavy heart I asked,

“Could I be as happy as you seem?”

The man I didn’t know was you just beamed,

And then he knelt and touched my hair,

And told me that I’d someday get there.

If I had love and friendship all in one;

Someone as shadeless as the sun.

If I spent my life in trust and love,

And followed the path that I’d dreamed of.

You then took my old hand in yours, we strolled away,

To live another shadeless day.

I remained and watched us go,

And then sat down to write this poem.

From this dream I’ll always know,

I want to live like them, with you,

Just us old wrinkly Dreamers two.
