A whole twenty dollars…

A whole twenty dollars…

What on earth is a ten year old like me gonna do with twenty dollars?

Poor Grandmamma Connie must really be getting old.

What do you put in a thank-you card to your Grandmamma besides “thank-you”?

I can write little scripts, poems, and stories, but I never know how to write a thank-you card.

“Roses are red, violets are blue. The money is great, so I wanted to say ‘thank-you’.”

I suck.

“Why don’t you just write the truth?” Says Mamma. “Tell her what you’ll do with the money.”

Only trouble is, I don’t know…

I don’t know…

A week later, when we go to visit Grandmamma Connie, I give her the card, and when she reads it, she laughs harder than I’ve seen my Grandmamma Connie laugh in a long time, and hands it to my Mamma.

My Mamma reads it aloud:

“Dear Grandmamma Connie,

Thank-you for the twenty dollars. I don’t know what to do with it.

Love, Mariah.”

She laughs too.

Well, she told me to write the truth!
