"Black Curls and Cigar Burns"

Sixteen means I'm lucky to feel this way at all
Dumb enough to pardon you
black curls and cigarettes burns --waiting
sickeningly feminine
flat against the school halls

I should have bid you stop grinning at me
or learned to avert my eyes from danger
instead of landing black and blue
scraped knees and scars
offering sanity and a constellation's new stars
at your feet

Sixteen means I've got my youth
While you almost got your car --
You were so not very cool
talking of a day's adventure in a cafe's
bathroom stall, mentioning an audience
"God damn boredom,
nerves..." --

and Geometry has what to offer?
if I'll never learn any proofs
"--Describe for me the length of your hair--"
"--Describe for me these different hands
in which my name has been scribbled--!"
I'll never learn any proofs

Age means I'll be blissfully inexperienced
trying to define myself correctly
Choking on cigars
Keeping close, steady eye contact
Defying my mother
Keeping close, steady eye contact
The passage way to boredom is shorter than you can imagine...
