Chapter 18 – The Place Where Time Stops (Epilogue)

The day finally came when Esmond had to return to America. We spent the morning before his flight, at the reservoir.

“You know, I had always been so upset to leave this neighborhood back then. It is always so tranquil, so peaceful.” I said, with my head resting on Esmond’s shoulder.

“Like a place where time had been frozen, beyond the reach of the urban rush.”

“I had always wished for time to stop whenever I am with you.”

Esmond laughed and held my hand. “So this will be our special place then; the place where time had stopped for us.” While saying, he put something onto my palm. I shifted my head to look at it.

“Esmond…”

It was a ring, tied on a string, making it a necklace.

“Why a necklace?” I wondered aloud to him.

“Because it would be worn closer to your heart.” He whispered to my ear and kissed me. He unclenched his other fist and revealed another similar to the one in my hand. “And this one is mine.” Esmond smirked, “I will not be around, but remember that you are still mine.”

“Haha, how could I ever forget that?” I laughed at his puppy eyes expression and stroked the ring in my hand. “Thanks, I will treasure this forever and ever!”

“And we will always be back here where Time had stopped for us.”

“Yup, forever and ever.”
