“Do the flowers bloom

A Wife’s Strife

By: Nikolina Vujosevic

“Do the flowers bloom

when the dew on their leaves

drips with a rhythm

onto the house eaves?”

Yes, flowers still blossom,

As sure as the sun

Rises in the morning

To show that night is done.

“Do my children still laugh

at the simplest things,

do they still scrape their knees

when they fall off the swings?”

They will always laugh,

At the stories we tell,

They remind them of you

It’s true, all is well.

“Does the dog still wait at the door,

patiently wagging his tail,

his eyes pleading for you,

something he knows will never fail?”

He sits there still,

Since the day you left,

We call him the statue,

He’s no longer deft.

“And what of the man,

to whom I gave my heart?

When we spoke our vows,

He said we’d never part.”

That man that you loved

has started anew

A daughter lovely as ever,

a life without you.
