All I Have To Give
“How much do you love me?” He asked his fiancée lying half asleep in his arms.
“With all my heart,” came the smiling reply.
“What would you do for me?” He couldn’t stop himself from asking. He had to know yet would rather he didn’t.
“Anything you wanted.”
“That’s not what I meant,” he shot back a bit agitated.
The other opened his eyes. “Then what do you mean?”
“How far would you go? How much would you sacrifice?” He sat up and stared down at the person he promised he would love for the rest of his life.
“I’d die for you,” was the immediate, unhesitating response.
“That’s it?” For some reason it sounded too clichéd and like an easy out. Like the most popular answer to a trick question on a test.
“What more do you want from me than that? Isn’t death enough?” The lover sat up not liking these questions at all and just a bit worried.
“Why death?” He asked softly.
“Because I’m afraid to die. But I’d die to protect you. I love you more than anything. You know I do. What were you expecting me to say?”
He didn’t have an answer for that as he looked into doubtful eyes. No matter how many times love was confessed in many ways at different times, it never seemed to be enough. “I’m sorry. I- we should get some sleep.” He turned around putting his back to his love. He didn’t want the other to see him cry.
A/n: This is an idea that just popped into my head. I wrote one line and the rest just sort of followed. I intentionally decided to leave them both nameless to further allow anyone reading to let them have their own take on it. I could’ve also given a reason though I don’t think people actually need a reason to be insecure. I hope you enjoyed reading.
