She concentrated on the seed in the ground, touching the soil softly. She used to be able to just touch the soil and the flower would grow quickly, but now when she did it took a while to work, and when the plant came out, it ended up being a black rose with many thorns. She sighed as the same result came out of the ground.
“Black roses aren’t too bad. They look pretty cool actually-” Skyler tried to cheer her up. He was sitting next to her, holding a black book.
“I don’t care what plant is the result, or what color.” She looked over to Skyler. “The fact that the result is a plant with many thorns means I’m dangerous.”
He leaned in, kissing her neck, “You don’t seem dangerous to me.”
“Well, thanks, but I am.” She smiled sadly. She stood and took the book from out of his hands and held it under her arm.
“You’re not going to practice anymore?” He stood, dusting his pants off.
“No.” she said softly and began walking to their house.
“Then what do you want to do now?” Skyler asked, catching up with her and matching her pace.
“It’s about time for lunch.” She said and as she walked up the door to their house opened for them.
“What are we having today?” Skyler kept a positive attitude, hoping it would cheer her up. She shrugged her shoulders in response. Skyler decided to offer some choices, “Well, we can have steak, or hamburgers, or soup, or-” He said the different choices in different accents to be silly.
“Let’s just see what we have in the kitchen.” She said, smiling a little.
They walked into the kitchen and she set the book down on the table and walked over to the stove and lit it with her hand. “How about some turkey?”
Skyler shrugged, “Sure,” and sat at the table. He would help her cook but she always insisted that she can do it alone.
The food was finished quicker than normal because of her uniqueness, and it tasted better. As Skyler ate, he thought back to the second time they met…
A few days had passed since Skyler saw the beautiful girl, and he was back in the woods searching for her. Every day since he had gone back, but she never came back; he wasn’t sure how to find her again. After walking around for hours, he finally spotted a white butterfly. Not wanting to take any chances of losing her, he rushed towards it but stopped when he heard her voice.
“Why are you looking for me?” it echoed through the woods.
“I want to see you.” Skyler said, looking around himself to see her.
She laughed a little before saying, “All you had to do was call me.”
“How? I don’t know your name-”
“I told you,” she suddenly appeared next to him and holding out her hand for the white butterfly to land on her hand, “you will name me.” The butterfly landed then vanished and she put her hand onto her dress and a picture of the white butterfly appeared on her dress.
“I had been thinking about it a bit, but are you sure you want me to name you?” Skyler asked, taking a step closer to her.
She nodded, “Of course.” She took a step closer to him as well, but she kissed him on his cheek. This startled Skyler a little but he smiled and kissed her back on her forehead. He wrapped his hands around her, “I want you to stay with me,” he said, “you’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.” He unconsciously combed his hand through her hair and she looked up at him.
“Name me and I’ll stay with you forever.” She smiled and leaned her head against his chest.
“Adine.” He whispered and she looked back up smiling. “You’re Adine.”
AN: “Adine” is Hebrew for “delicate”. Skyler chose this name because of her delicate nature and because of the butterfly.
