Little Ones
Who says that little people are unaware?
They are little, not naïve.
We dress them as adults,
Why then can’t we accept them as that?
They see the same horrors, each day, as us,
And hear the same tragic news,
Some may be ill-informed,
But is that because we make them so?
With our lies, and smiles,
And constant cheer,
We try to create for them a world of security,
What a laugh, what a lie, what a fear.
Security? There’s no such thing,
There’s pain, and hurt, and tears,
For without the pain,
How would we recognize the comfort,
And if there’s no bad,
What is good?
Little ones can wonder too,
They can laugh, yet they can cry,
They can struggle through this world we destroy,
And they can help us see it through.
