Chapter Eleven: No cell phones, No pictures, No people
Addy woke up to the sun hitting her eyes. Frowning she rolled her head towards the pillows and wished for her assaulted sleep to return. But when she felt the arm that was around her waist clutch her tightly she tried not to jerk to violently away. Instead she slowly turned around and found Ryan’s sleeping form right next to her.
Licking her lips she remembered last night and sighed. Facing him she snuggled deeper next to him and suddenly found herself comforted by his fading scent of spice and just his plain regular scent. His arms seemed to tighten around her just then and she felt her lips curve into a smile as she heard his heartbeat go from its steady pace, to its irregular beating like hers was now doing.
Looking up she found that he was looking down at her. Smiling she kissed him softly on the lips and said, “Good morning.”
“Morning.” He said grinning.
Stretching a little she rolled on her back and felt Ryan do the same, rolling away from her and turning towards her wrapping his arms back around her once more.
“What should we do today?” he asked softly in her ear.
She sighed and said, “I don’t know.”
He seemed to think for a second and said, “How about a drive?”
“A drive?” she repeated apprehensively.
“A drive.” He repeated as well hugging her tightly.
Swallowing she wondered if that would be a good idea. She still had her misgivings from last night over if Jacquelyn was still watching them, and if she was, then this new piece of news would be all over town how the star football player stayed the night at the house of the girl that he was kissing in the rain with!
Sitting up she shook her head and voiced her thoughts, “What if Jacquelyn is still out there? She had pictures the first time, and if she gets pictures again, we both are going to be screwed!”
Ryan sat up as well and took hold of her shoulders and said, “Hell with Jacquelyn! Hell with her pictures and hell with what people think this weekend. Listen,” he said quietly resting his head on hers, “we have this weekend. Let us not think on anything! Anything!” he repeated taking her in his arms.
Sighing she wanted to be comforted by this, but her mind still was consumed by fear over what would happen to them...to her...What a bloody way to start out the year! Found clad in the arms of a man that was the star football player, and had the most popular girl for a girl friend, and all of it equaled her undoing.
“Addy?”
Looking up she found Ryan looking at her. Sighing once again she smiled sheepishly and said, “Alright.”
“Alright?” he repeated.
Looking in her eyes he seemed to doubt her answer and asked, “Are you sure?”
Feeling as though her emotions were taking over her she just nodded and said softly, “Yes.”
Ryan looked at Addy uncertainly and knew that she still was weighing everything in her mind. Hell, he was too! But he needed her to trust him and believe him that everything will be fine. Taking her chin with his hand he looked her straight in the eye and before he spoke took a deep breath and whispered,
“Don’t think about anything! Nothing at all! Forget about Jacquelyn and Nikki and everybody else! Just think of you and me! This is our time! And it is ours alone!” he finished barely above a whisper.
He watched as she looked down towards her lap. Taking her hands in his he searched her eyes once again and asked, “Do you trust me?”
She looked up at him and a tear escaped from her lashes and she nodded whispering, “Yes. I trust you.”
Smiling a little, her took her face in his hands and kissed her softly on the lips then both her cheeks and her forehead and ending back at her lips.
“It’s our weekend.” He said softly.
She nodded and said, “Then let’s get it started.”
Smiling he helped her up and kissing her once more said, “Then let’s get ready.”
Ryan made sure to use the back roads to where he was going. He didn’t want to go through the town, and he once they had gotten in the car he had sensed Addy’s apprehension again and he wanted to show her that she could trust him. Taking other roads to lead him to the back roads he hoped that if anyone was following them, then they would get lost or lose them in one of the other roads.
As he finally made it out of town he wondered how a picnic would sound to Addy. Taking a slow breath he looked over and was about to ask when he saw her looking out the window gazing at the trees the lined this back road. The leaves were just changing color and when he looked out himself, he couldn’t help but to feel in awe.
Maybe he’ll surprise her or something.
But he didn’t have to wait long. She feel asleep once they were half and hour away from town. Smiling at her sleeping form, he knew that she probably was tired. Hell, he was too; he had spent the majority of the early morning starring down at her sleeping form! But what helped him was that knowing where they were going had good shade trees, and the little blanket that he had managed to sneak out while she had been in the shower was in the trunk and just the knowledge of a nap in the shade next to a lake, was all that he needed to pay attention to the road.
The lake was two hours from town and another little town just half an hour away from it held a Kentucky chicken, so he would stop there.
As he inched his way closer he finally made it to the Kentucky chicken and decided to go in and get it. Better to leave her sleeping than her waking up to some loud and rude intercom taking his order. Leaving the car on he stepped out and couldn’t help but to laugh at his shoes. They were Addy’s uncles and with a pair of her uncle’s thin socks, they fit just fine.
As he went in he ordered the food and when he came back out he found to his delight that she was still asleep. Getting in he put the food in the backseat and pulled out of the parking lot and finished the rest of the way to the lake with his growling stomach and the sleeping form next to him.
When he finally pulled in he wondered how he was going to wake her when her eyes opened and she looked around.
Looking over at him she smiled sheepishly and said, “I didn’t mean to sleep.”
He smiled and bent over to kiss her softly and said, “Its fine. It gave me a chance to get this.” He reached behind him and grabbed the bag of still very hot food.
Her eyes grew big and looked up at him.
He laughed and kissed her nose and said, “Come on. How about a little picnic and another nap?”
He could see her face blush as he got out. She was cute when she blushed. Like a little school girl.
As he got the blanket from the back seat he led her to a little area beneath a huge oak tree and he laid the blanket underneath its huge limbs and helped her sit down. She helped him set out the lunch and they sat next to each other leaning against the trunk of the oak tree and looked out over the lake and the clouds the were rolling over head still from yesterday.
And as they sat there and both finished with their lunch they both fell asleep in each others arms, listening to the sounds of nature around them and finding comfort in each other rhythmic breathing. No worries. No pictures. No cell phones. No people.
