Violin on Campus
By Laura Schiller
Red brick buildings with green copper roofs
Bathed in golden light
September sunset
And you with your grey jacket and pensive face
Sitting next to me
Just enjoying the air of evening
Then suddenly, a distant melody
A shadowy man walking down the road
Playing a violin
Its slow and haunting music
Wove a spell
And we smiled and listened
“He always comes at this time”
You said
But to me
It was a miracle
An ordinary everyday miracle
Like a sunset or grass or buildings
Or music
Or friendship.
