I listen to the discordant sounds of the waves and annoying seagulls. Strangely enough, it soothes me. The sun hovers in the blue firmament, as it is still a bright yellow ball, hanging in the sky. The seagulls jostle around for the scraps of food left behind, and the suns rays grope around the sky. The waves are volatile, crashing to the top of the sand and then reverting back into the ocean.

I wonder what mysterious creatures are incognito in the deep depths of the ocean, or what shells can be found if I peruse the sand. I wonder how wanton a shark has to be to maim a smaller fish. The cold sea water gingerly sweeps over my feet. The sudden chill interrupts the barrage of questions filling my mind, like the waves that are crashing against the shore. But it doesn’t disturb me for long. I wonder if the fish have some type of monarchy. Which fish venerate the higher monarchy if there is one?

What audacious fish dares to object to this elite group? How many coral reefs amass together? Do the fish that live in them comply with their rules? My mind continues to fill with inquiries, but is devoid of the answers to them. In the lost city of Atlantis, is there a myriad amount of mermaids with a gift of longevity surviving in a citadel? I wonder what it is like in the floating kingdom. I close my eyes and try to imagine the utopia of underwater perfection.

An ornate clear blue, decorated by the colorful sea creatures and plants. My feet graze the wet sand, as I walk on the bottom of the ocean. At least that’s what I thought, until I see an underwater promontory. Beyond the cliff my eyes struggle to see the vast underwater area. Such a deep blue, I take a deep breath trying to muster up…. I can take a deep breath? I can breath under this water? This is no nonentity. I could obsess over this for years.

A vague and shadowy apparition catches my eye in the distance. It intrigues me enough to try and walk off the cliff. I am now promenading through the water, heading toward the figure. It is clear that this apparition is very, very large. I’m now in close proximity. The apparition is actually not an apparition. But a castle, a large castle indeed. I walk through the transparent layer, and enter into a prodigal kingdom, with ample space, and towering waterfalls. I start to hear inaudible laughter. I guess it wouldn’t be heard then, but something facetious seems to be going on… I see a face, well I think I see a face, but it quickly disappears, a trail of bubbles left behind.

“wait!” I call, but salt water fills my mouth. I sit up coughing, and spitting out a horrid taste. A mocking laughter is around me,

“get up,” the voice laughs, “or the sea will eat you,” so much… for my dream.

“alright! Did you really have to pour sea water all over me! Do you know what’s in that water?”“mermaids!” my young sister says

“don’t be stupid Kayla-,” my younger sisters twin retorts “mermaids don’t exist,”

“throw water on me again, and you wont exist,” I say angered.
