Title: Tennis Team Poem

Date: January 9, 2008

Friend: The Tennis Team

zkz

Walk into the courts

Talk, talk, talk

Unload your stuff

Talk, talk, talk

Get two balls

We’ve lost so many

Walk to the very last court

“Ball one!” someone calls

“Let’s see how bad I am”

“Oooh, you almost got that!”

“I’ve got one!”

“No, I’ve got one!”

“BAAAALLLLL”

“Hey! Watch out!”

“Carson, ball. Carson, ball. Carson, ball, ball, ball, ball!”

Ball flies through the air like a bird

Then goes over the fence

“Why, Carson? Why?!”

Hit the ball

Hits the net

“P for Poverty!” yells Kelsey

“P for Poverty!” we yell back

Gus calls from the court on the other side,

“What time is it, Que hora es?

“4:50” I scream back.

“4:51” someone else calls

“I’ve got 4:49!” someone yells

“Yours is wrong, dude!”

“No, yours is!”

“You’re both wrong!”

“NO YOU ARE!” they both tell me

Time ticks away and darkness approaches

We lose many balls

We make many points

We share many laughs

5:30 during Day Light Savings

6:00 when it’s not

We gradually part

Until tomorrow, then!

See ya!

This must be somewhat confusing if you’re not on my tennis team!

The tennis team is really tight and we have a lot of fun every practice. This recalls a typical tennis practice from beginning to end. An hour of fun; sunny or cold. Whether the entire team shows up on the same day and it’s “standing room only”, or whether only four people actually show up, it’s always fun! Let me explain the “P for Poverty” thing. Okay, the new players have this game where as we hit the ball we shout of a word that starts with a letter from the alphabet (in order, of course) So it went something like, “A for Asparagus!” “B for Bedtime” “C for Crunch!” and so on. Well one day, we decided to have a category for the game. Kelsey suggested we do World Problems. And, thus, when the alphabet rolled around to the letter ‘P’, “P for Poverty was born”. It translates to, “Good Effort!” Kelsey, of course, thought that whole thing up.

P.S. Does anyone know how to get the upside down question marks?
