“Yes, yes I remember when we met well.” Jacob laughed, “I was walking by the back rooms to get to my car quicker; I never expected to see a girl crying back there.”

She rolled her eyes and nudged him playfully, “I was under a ton of stress.” She told the therapist.

“I see.” He said and pushed his glasses up. “And what happened that made you so stressed?”

“The principle asked something of me, to give up an award to a senior because every year a senior left with the highest grade point average award, and that year I was the highest in the school but only in tenth grade.”

“I see, so you did not want to give up this award?” he asked while writing something down on a notepad.

She sighed, “No I didn’t-”

“But she wanted to give it up to keep the peace.” Jacob said then looked over into her eyes, “I went to the principal and suggested they gave out an award for the top person in the school and one for the top person in the senior class.”

She looked into his eyes, “Yes, and I was glad you did.”

He smirked, “That just goes to show you not the greatest grades show the smartest people.” She laughed, he always joked about this. He was one of the lower average people grade-wise.

“I’m afraid that’s all the time we have for today.” The therapist said suddenly and closed his notebook. “Until next week’s session.”

“Alright.” She smiled, “Thank you.” They all stood and shook hands, the therapist opened the door for the couple and they walked out with Rebecca in front. Rebecca led the way out of the building and into the parking lot.

“When will these sessions end?” Jacob asked while walking to the car.

“When he believes we are ready.” She smiled, unlocking the car still a few feet away.

“You know, you should wait until you are closer to unlock the car-”

“I’ll be alright.” She said rolling her eyes and smiling. She slid into the driver’s seat and was buckling her seat belt as he slid into the passenger seat. She started the car and looked behind her to begin backing up.

“So, what do you want for supper?” He asked, buckling his seat belt.

“I don’t know.” She shrugged. She pulled out the spot and was now on the highway, heading to their apartment. Most of the ride was silent, until Jacob finally made a request.

“Sushi?”

“That sounds good, but we’re almost home. With the gas prices so high-”

“Yeah, yeah I get it.” he smiled reaching a hand over to squeeze her leg playfully.

She laughed, “Stop I’m driving here!” She pulled into the parking area at the apartment building and pulled into an open spot. “Do you think we can ask the front office to put in a suggestion for more parking spaces? I mean, we can’t all have one vehicle per family here…”

“I’ll tell them.” Jacob said while opening his car door.

“Thanks.” She smiled and killed the engine and got out the car herself. As they were walking up to the building, she set the alarm and stuck her keys in her purse.

“Race you up!” Jacob said and took off running up the steps. She rolled her eyes; the staircase was only big enough for one person to go up at a time, so of course he would win. She took her time getting to the staircase but jogged up them anyways. She approached their apartment to find the door open and Jacob sitting on the couch as if he was waiting a long time. She smirked and shook her head, turning around to close the door.

Placing her purse on the hanger next to the door along with her shoes on the ground next to the door, she noticed something by the television to her left. She turned her head further to find a bouquet of red roses. “Who are those flowers for?” She asked, already knowing the answer, but wanted to be sure.

“Is there any other person who lives in this room? Personally, I don’t like receiving roses…” He smirked, coming closer to her.

“Thanks Jacob. That’s really nice of you-”

“It is?” he asked playfully and came up from behind her, as if to hug her, but she saw something in his hands.

“you didn’t-” she said half choking over her words.

He smirked and came to the front of her and went down on one knee, “You mentioned before you never wanted to be proposed to in front of other people, so I decided it best it would be just between you and I.”

“Jacob, I-I don’t know what to say, I mean,” she shook her head, trying to get over the shock, “Yes, yes of course I’ll marry you!!” she was almost laughing and tears began forming in her eyes.

“Four years together, I’ve never felt like this with anyone else, and I believe in my heart you are the one I want to spend the rest of my life with.” He smiled, taking the ring out. She was now in tears and was shaking a little as he slid the ring on her finger. Before he could get back up she flew her arms around him and hugged him, tears flowing freely.
