STAGNANT 5/1/08

The second shelf of my fridge is organized by expiration date.

Besides the ketchup and strawberry jelly, everything is past its date.

The ranch expired in March, the cream cheese last week.

The mayo is so old it’s started to change color.

I’ve never been much of a packrat, but I can’t throw these away until I have something to replace them.

No matter – there’s a BOGO at the store in a couple days.

Means I’ll have twice as much to throw away next time.

The first item on the shelf is a clear glass jar.

EXP. DEC 2007.

It’s my handwriting.

I can’t find what I need to replace it.

I pull out the jar of relish beside it and toss it haphazardly into the trash.

The jar that takes its place looks no different than the one before it.
