Connection Cannot Be Established
Oneshot!
Love at first sight is an overused expression in the eyes of a particular girl.
Lust at first byte would be nearer to the mark where she’s concerned.
Don’t get her wrong, it’s not the fact that she doesn’t believe that love at first can happen, it’s more just that she’s stopped expecting it to happen.
She flirted and teased, bantered and laughed just like the others who were hopeful for some kind of attraction. If you looked at her at moments like that, you’d only see a flirting, teasing, bantering, laughing girl. You’d have no idea she was putting up a deliberate, elaborately weaved front.
When the mask of sorts was down, her fingers and thoughts wanted and itched for something entirely different, something she couldn’t find within a hundred-mile radius.
She was, after all, living in a technology world.
She lived for the stolen moments at the computer screen. Moments she stole when the house was empty and silent.
Moments when a particular boy was on.
Oceans separated them, and they were rarely on at the same points of time, but when they were, they were perfectly in sync.
It was like he was right next to her or her to him.
Once they went at it, messaging each other back and forth, it was almost as if she could feel him.
Feel him touch her when he said he wanted her. Feel his lips tickly against her ear when he told her what he’d say.
She could feel everything he was feeling.
It was the most irrational thing she could feel, the most irrational thing she could do.
When she was offline, she had her head on tight and straight. She knew it wasn’t healthy pining after this relationship that could never really happen. She knew it wouldn’t be another You’ve Got Mail. She would be done, she’d stop.
But she would sign in despite of herself, and with his first message she let her head spin.
It was never more real for her then when it wasn’t really real at all.
