there’s a billboard
outside the best chinese
restaurant in the world
with a picture of a roll
of scotch tape on it.
but see,
unlike most ads,
this billboard isn’t
immaculately clean.
there’s what i think might
be pencil shavings stuck to
the side of that tape.
and instead of bold
computer generated writing,
there are little lopsided
squares with a single letter
on each one
spelling out either ‘ad here’
or ‘adhere’.
and i think they’re trying
to leave you with a
mystery, because it could
be one of those stupid
ads for ads
or it could be telling you
to go buy some scotch tape.
anyway,
they aren’t telling you which
to choose,
and technically you could
take that as a hint to
go against the flow of things,
since that’s what this
unclean, untidy billboard
represents.
it’s mysterious, huh?
gorgeous, poetic,
and so like what i want
to be. a billboard
in front of a chinese restaurant
with a message of my
personal insanity pressed
against it with a single strip
of all too easy to peel off
tape.
