I feel the soft feathers
Of your eyelashes
Fluttering against my neck
Like dandelion seeds
Caught in a gentle updraft
Of a warm, summer breeze.
White cottony ballerinas
Dancing on the wings
Of Zephyrus,
Counting time to
The beat of
Earth’s pulsing heart,
Pumping life through
Her watery veins.
Your sleeping breath
Is cool as it flows
Into my pores
Like a wind swirling
Across the ocean
To whisper time’s
Secrets to the
Eager sand
While the waves
Gossip with two buoys;
Each flashing light
A new rumor
Taunting the lonely
Lighthouse.
I feel your arms
Wrap around me
securing me in a vice
I never want to escape,
Like mistletoe clings
To the bow of an oak.
Cerberus steps aside,
Inviting the vine to enter
Into the delicate heartwood
To sustain itself
Uniting the two
Through vitality:
A tree, a vine, a flower.
I feel your warmth
Pressing against me, into me
As if we were one,
Making us one.
I feel as if you were
Still here with me,
As if you could
Still be with me,
Here, in this realm,
Separated by only flesh
And not the growing
Lust and need
Of Hades.
