1The sun set and he awakened, lifting his cold blue eyes to the twilight sky.
Frigid winter air surrounded him, embracing him into its cold grip.
A sigh escaped his lips, and he watched the breath float up to the starry pale blue sky.
Stars shimmered above him, shining in their celestial perfection.
He stepped into the darkness, his onyx black hair sparkling like diamonds in the soft moonlight, framing his face like a picture frame. The lust for blood grew inside of him and the thrill of the hunt called to him, like it was taunting him with the promise of human blood.
The need for the copper-sweet liquid overcame him, and he could almost taste it in his mouth.
Wind rushed past him, carrying the scent of humans. He took a deep breath of it, the smell causing anticipation to grow inside of him.
The moon gleamed onto his skin, making it appear paler then it really was, giving him the appearance of a ghost. He smelled the air again, but this time he caught a different scent, which surprised him. It was lilies, and the scent was so wonderful. It soaked into his being, lulling him into a sense of helplessness. It reminded him of his mother, who always kept the white flowers in her house, though now they laid on top of her grave.
It was so strong, he had never smelled anything like it before. He wanted to find there the aroma was coming from, but the blood came back into his mind, reigniting his hunger for it.
He entered a dark forest, the canopy of it moving with the wind. Shadows were cast onto the frost bitten earth below, a few spots of moonlight showing through.
The sounds of a trickling stream flowed beside him, it was half frozen, and the water bounced off of the ice like a river in a canyon. The tranquil noise soothed him, bringing his anticipation down and straightening his thoughts. His footsteps were crisp yet soft against the frozen grass and leaves underfoot.
He caught every scent on the wind, every noise that surrounded him. In the distance he could hear the wolves howling, singing a song for everyone that was able to listen. Crickets chirped as if winter had not come, and the frigid wind sang around him.
The scent of human grew stronger, sending a shiver up his spine and causing his anticipation to grow stronger. He smiled softly, closing his eyes and listening closely for the source of the scent.
There were to of them, both young sounding. A boy and a girl, probably run aways or homeless.
Their voices were clear and pure, their innocence ringed in it.
A sadistic smile crossed onto his angelic features, already plotting his attack.
He tuned in onto the voices, making sure to head closer to them.
Their voices grew louder after a few minutes and he continued to smile to himself, his pearl white fangs peeking over his lips and glowing softly. He could now here their footsteps and their heartbeats, they echoed in his ears, telling him how close he was to them.
The smell of the lilies came back to him, making him slow down and almost stop.
He shook his head, trying to clear the scent from his mind. He took a deep breath, calming his nerves like he did every time before he made a kill.
They were so close to him now, he could almost feel the texture of the blood running into his mouth and down his throat. Their voices echoed through out the forest, telling him he was right upon them. He could see them, he could see how young they truly were. They were just kids, barely even teenagers. The girl was blond, small and delicate just as he imagined her to me. Her hair glittered white diamonds under the soft, white light. Her eyes were a brilliant shade of aqua that glowed like jewels.
The boy had dark brown hair with a soft red tint, like mahogany. His features were soft, just like the girl he was with. His eyes were a deep green, almost black. When the moon shined in them they were like emeralds cut to perfection.
He stepped forward and into a block of light, speaking to them softly, "Isn't it late for you two to be out, especially in a dark forest? I mean, what if something bad happened? Who would help you?"
They stopped and turned, looking back at him with eyes filled with curiousity and fear.
The girl opened her lips to talk back the vampire spoke before her, "What are your names?"
Her male companion stepped forward, pushing her back slightly, "I'm Constantine and her name is Leset. But why does it matter to you?" His tone was rude, a slight tone of venom in it.
"Well, Constantine and Leset, I am Bane, It's a pleasure to meet you, though this certainly isn't a good setting or time." Bane said kindly, giving them a soft smile.
Leset stepped forward, her eyes no longer holding fear.
"We're lost, we ran away from were we lived... Do you know where the closest town is by any chance?" Her voice was barely over a whisper. but Bane heard her fine.
"You must be orphans, huh? I'm sorry to tell you, but the closet town isn't for near a hundred miles. It would possibly take days to reach there." he carried mock sympathy on his voice, trying to win the two over.
Leset sighed, "We might as well go back behind they find out we are gone. We will never make it."
Bane took a step closer to them, his hunger almost taking over his sanity.
He could see the blood pumping in their veins, he could hear their hearts beating in their chests.
The girl looked at Bane and gasped, "You're so pale, but your eyes are so vibrant!"
She took a step back, fear rising in her chest. "I know what you are!"
Bane looked at Constantine, who was also stepping awy from him.
"Vrykolakas!" Constantine cried with a thick Greek accent.
Tears ran down Lesets face, "You're going to kill us! You are going to steal our life from us!"
Bane looked down and laughed softly, then looked up, his fangs showing.
"You're a clever one, aren't you?" He snickered, "And theres no point in running, I would catch you before you got out of my sight."
Constantine turned and cried out in Greek, his face buried in his hands.
Thats when Bane saw his opening. He lunged out at Constantine, grabbing him by the waist and pulling him to himself. He bared his fangs and sunk them into the youngs boys neck, enjoying the cry of pain that he gave out. The warm blood rushed into his mouth, and endless fount for him to feed off of. More ran into his mouth as he swallowed it. The boys heartbeat was a soft thud now, slowing and getting softer with every drink Bane took. Constantine cried out again as the blood flow lessened. Bane took one last drink from him and threw him to the ground. He wiped his lips and looked down at him, smiling.
Constantines emerald eyes were dull and faded, losing their life from them.
Blood ran from his mouth, and Bane guessed that he broke his neck without meaning to.
The boy shifted his eyes to Bane, the blood continuing to run from his mouth.
"Heh.. what a way to die! I got killed by a vampire! Now that's a great story to tell." he said with a slight laugh before he closed his eyes tight and groaned in pain.
His breath was raspy, and Bane watched as he took his last one, then went still.
Bane turned to Leset, who was sitting on the ground holding her knees, staring at Constantines lifeless body.
"You're next my dear." He said softly, walking toward her. He reached down and picked her up gently, making sure she stood standing.
She looked up into his eyes, her own cold and emotionless.
"Why us? Why do you do this?" She whispered, still looking up at him.
"Because I am a vampire. I care less about what happens and who suffers from your death. You have nothing, do you not? You ran away because no one loved you, because they abused you. You wanted death, didn't you? I can see it in your eyes, in your soul. No one wants you and you know it. Where will you go if I let you live? They will find you and hurt you more! You don't want that... I know you don't..." He stared into her eyes the whole time, his voice fierce.
She didn't look away, but tears welled in her eyes.
"You're right! I do want death, more then anything. I have nothing. Take me into death, Just please do it kindly..." Leset whispered, finally lowering her gaze.
"I'll be as gentle as I can my dear..." Bane said as he lowered his mouth to her throat, kissing it softly before he bit into it.
Then it came back, the lilies. It was her blood, her blood smelled like lilies. Her took a long drought from her neck, cherishing the moment. He embraced her as tightly as her could, trying to distract her from the pain. Her breathing was heavy with uncertainty. Bane took long gulps from her neck, trying to make it was fast as possible. the drum that was her heart was so faint, almost inaudible.
"Thank you..." She whispered into his ear before the blood stopped and so did her heart.
Bane dropped her body to the ground, watching her platinum hair fall like thread around her form.
He laughed and shook his head, looking at the horizon. It had a faint orange glow from the oncoming morning sun.
"I can't escape it this time. My time has finally come..." He said as he walked over to Constantines body. He dragged it over to Lesets and laid them down together.
They looked so peaceful, laying together in sleeps final embrace.
He looked up again, his eyes directed to the soft morning sun.
The sky has turned pink, a soft glow of orange mixing into it. It has been so long since he had last seen a sunset. The warmth soaked into his skin and he closed his eyes and tilted his head back.
He knew it wouldn't last long. Soon he would feel like he was on fire, and he would turn into nothing.
He opened his eyes to the light again. It burned, the light burned his eyes.
Rays peeked over the horizon, reflecting onto his skin and singeing him.
He hissed as the burning moved through out his entire body. He was right, it was fire.
The fire was in his bones, in every cell of his being. He felt himself breaking down, breaking down into ash. A smile crossed onto his face, and for once he felt true relief.
"Finally, My Black Grave..." He whispered. He could feel his body decomposing, his body falling apart.
Then it all turned black, and he knew it was over. He didn't know what was next, except light, white and pure blinding light.
Salvation.
