To Which We Succumb

Do not tell me the things which I wish not to hear.

Give in to seduction; it is nothing to fear.

Chapter One

The first rays of the morning sun shone threw the tiny gap between the long velvet curtains illuminating the dark room. Brianna sat up in the bed slowly, rubbing her eyes. She reached out to her left, searching for her bedside lamp, but it was not there. Panic shot through Brianna like a bullet, where was she? It was not her bedroom, of that she was certain.

She scampered off the big bed, throwing the duvet off of her, only to find she was not in her clothes either. She was wearing a simple red, silk nightgown; the soft feeling was like water against her skin. But she could not relax; she did not even know where she was.

So it was not a nightmare, and he had kidnapped her, but how? The last she remembered was him kissing her. Where had he brought her, and how dare he change her without her consent?

She pushed all the thoughts aside, first she had to get out. She slowly wrapped her hand around the golden door knob and turned it. Surprisingly it opened. But was she prepared to leave the room? She did not even know where she was.

Carefully she crept out into the long wide corridor. Through the darkness she could see there were another two doors to her right, one to her left at the end of the corridor, and three opposite her room. Her room, could she even call it that?

There was a staircase on the right leading to another floor upstairs, and also one leading downstairs. The house was eerily quiet while she pondered where to begin. Something about the room at the end of the corridor drew her to it. How it seemed so alone amongst the rest, at the very end, yet she could tell it was the biggest room of all. Gradually she walked towards it, making as little noise as possible. She turned around every now and then, checking no one was behind her, afraid someone might jump out and grab her.

When she reached the door she asked herself whether or not she had gone mad. It seemed acceptable; perhaps this was all just a dream, created by her wild mind. But she scolded herself for surrendering to such a conclusion and with all the courage left within her she forced herself to open the door.

It seemed this room was even darker than the corridor if possible. She squinted in hopes of making things clearer, and somehow found herself edging further into the room.

The door slammed shut behind her, and she jumped in shock, twirling round. However she was only met by darkness, nothing was there. Slowly she turned back around, gazing around the mysterious room. Perhaps she could find a light switch, or the curtains, it was day after all.

Then she felt it, that same cold feeling which sent shivers throughout her body, mixed with bliss and dread. She could hear his light breathing in the soundless room; she could feel it on her shoulder and neck. She was frozen from terror as his hands slowly slid up her bare arms.

"Looking for me darling?" Lucian whispered from behind her.

She inhaled sharply, searching for her voice. "Why would I do such a thing?" she said, but it sounded so distant to her, as though she were watching it all unfold from afar.

"Perhaps you missed me," he assumed.

"Hardly," she whispered.

"Oh you hurt me so much," he said, chuckling lightly. His laughter was deep and she could feel the rumble of his chest on her back. She shuddered inwardly, wanting to move away from him, but too afraid of how he may react.

"You must be cold, right my love?" he asked.

"N-no," she stuttered in contrary to her answer.

She could feel his lips against her neck form a small smile. Suddenly Lucian had his arm under her legs and one around her shoulder, lifting her bridal style. He clicked his fingers and dim candles were lit around the luxurious room they were in. He carried her to his bed; the black silky sheets had intricate gold embroidery. He lay her down softly, resting her head upon a pillow. The room was grand and shamefully Brianna wondered what the rest of the mansion looked like.

He climbed onto the bed besides her, pulling the covers over both of them. His back was leaning against the headboard, and Brianna noticed that he was topless, a light blush gracing her cheeks.

She watched him from the corner of her eyes, and slowly dared to move. She sat up beside him, desperately wanting to go back home.

Lucian turned to watch her, taking her hand in his tracing circles in her palm with his thumb.

"You are so very beautiful," he told her. Lucian had been amazed the first time he laid eyes upon her. He couldn't fathom how a mere mortal could be so stunning, he knew there was something special about her, and he wanted to find out what it was.

"Why have you brought me here?" she moaned.

"Would you rather I'd have killed you?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

She did not say anything; she wondered what fate would have been better. He rolled his eyes at her silence and stupidity.

"Perhaps for some death is an option. There are of course many foolish people out there who wish to end their lives themselves. However I will never experience such a thing and of that I am grateful. You get given life as a gift, why put it to an end?" he observed.

She was astounded by his remark. Here she was being held captive by him and he was giving her advice of staying alive when he may possibly kill her afterwards.

"What is the point in me even considering my fate when it is practically in your hands; you are after all my captor," she said.

"My love, you do not comprehend me. I do not wish you harm, there is something about you which has captured my attention. I may be your captor, but I would prefer to be called Lucian. I wish to keep you here with me and discover what it is, I am sure there is something you and I both do not know," he explained.

"I am not some sort of experiment that you can toy around with and discover new things with. I am a human being, but I suppose you shall never understand because you are not worthy enough to be one," she said angrily.

His eyes flashed a dark red and she feared for the worst, reprimanding herself for speaking her mind. He could take her life any second for all she knew.

"Worthy enough? Oh I beg to differ," he chuckled mockingly "It is you who is not worthy enough to live forever."

"I would rather die than be like you," she spat.

Abruptly he was leaning over her, his arms on either side of her body, holding her captive.

"You will not speak to me in such a manner; do not forget where you are Miss Calisaya. Here I am in control, and you are in my captivity."

"Do not forget why I am here, you have brought me here when I did not desire to. Take me home, I do not want to follow your petty rules," she exclaimed.

"Possibly if you had listened to me earlier and begged for your freedom I would have let you go. But as you did not you are to stay here. I will not change my decision, of that you can be assured," he said, and then he was gone, along with the flames in the candles, leaving her once again in darkness, her own solitude providing little comfort.

Author Note:

Oh, it's only been one day and I'm putting up the next part? What a record! Better not get used to it, just to be careful. ;)

But I do plan on keeping up regular updates with this story. I've finished chapter two and I'm writing chapter three. As long as I keep at least one chapter ahead...I might actually finish a story. Wouldn't that be cool?

So Reviews are much appreciated! I'd like to know what you guys think. Hopefully this chapter explains things better. ) Next chapter has a lot more detail too, I feel like I'm rushing a bit, but then again I want to. I don't like making stories too long and dull, I prefer jumping straight to the juicy parts since it will be long enough as it is. hehe.

So thank you to Forever a Shade of Grey, openheadspace, and bela13 for reviewing!

Adios
