One step, that’s all it’ll take. Closing her eyes, she takes a moment of peace, and inhales one of her last breaths. Is this what she wants? She nods to herself. This is exactly what she wants. She cries, silently. She is not sad, nor is she scared. All she feels is joy; joy that she is finally doing what she wants, finally doing what everyone wants her to do. The wind brushes her cheeks, and she smiles sadly. This touch, this feeling, she will miss it greatly. But if she has to give it up, then she will. She wants her wish to come true. With eyes open, she listens to the music which appeases the mood. Inhale, exhale, she tells herself, be steady. Below her, the waves crash against the rocks. They roar soothingly, as if pleading her to come into the waters.
I’m coming now. Finally.
With her music playing, she stretches her arms out and prepares herself. This is what she yearns for. This is what she had always yearned for. She takes a step, with her eyes shut again. Soon, she is moving with the wind. Time slows down as she sways into the calming waters, without uttering a sound of regret. As she flies from the cliff top to the waters, someone comes to where she was standing, just a moment ago. He screams her name, but she does not hear. Her music is on too loud, and she is too at ease to hear.
NO!
He screams at her, at the waves. She still does not hear him, and she lets the waters swallow her. She does not realize that she left her unknown love at the top of the cliffs. Instead, she allows herself to sink to the bottom of the surface, as she always wanted. Her music fades away, as it is ruined by the water, just like her. Her guardian angel stands in horror while he watches his life, his heart float away from him. Her angel jumps into the water, once he comes to realization. He does not move with the wind, he instead fights it move faster. He, too, meets the waves, who now try to reject him. They crash against him, and send him farther away from his heart. He can barely see with his face covered in tears, and the water forcing itself into his eyes. But he feels around and he splashes around, and finds her hand. It is limp. Neither one can breathe, neither one can survive anymore. It is finally the end, but now they are together. Together, they move with the current, and tangle into the seaweed. They fall into their places, and fall into their end. Their last breath has been made, and their last wishes have been granted. This is not the end they pictured, but it has happened like it should have. One step was all it took.
