Once Upon a Yesterday

Once Upon a Yesterday

Once upon a yesterday,
I wished upon a star.
With a light as my blanket,
and the Moon as my pillow.

I dreamt of the sun,
and His crown of light.
The King of the solar system,
with no Queen . . .
How Lonely.

The Black Queen of Chess,

Sits on her throne,

Full of Glory and scorn.

Out of all the Queen’s soldiers,

And all the King’s men,

No one can please her,

As much as He can. . .

High in the Heavens,

A bluebird does sing.

Of Girls in white dresses,

And Men with white wings. . .

The Rainbow outside my window

Poses for pictures.

Smiling colorfully out at me.

It fades like the Superstar it is. . .

Rare to catch,

But highly photogenic. . .

As She sits in her high tower,

He sings her a song.

Of love and of joy,

And of all that’s gone wrong.

If He were to stay,

He’d be given the world.

But since He is gone,

He’s left just a girl.
