Chapter 2

I went through all my classes with no problems. Well I did have problems with one of my teachers, the worst teacher in the world I might add. Her name is Mrs. Singer. She’s an old, cranky lady. She hates that I wear hats on my head. I mean it’s not against the rules. So, I guess she just hates me. She gave me a week of detention for something you can do! I’m not going to worry about it until tomorrow, because that when I start-cue scary music-detention.

I started tugging on my hat as I went to the gym. I saw all the guys sitting on the bleachers, I guess waiting for the coach. I didn’t see Jessie there yet, so I lingered around the door waiting for her. Where the hell is she? She never on time godd--.

My thoughts were interrupted when Jessie came running in. She was taller than me, about 5 ft 8, while I’m about 5 ft 6, and we both have a nice built. She was my best friend, one of the very few people I let get close to me, and a tomboy as well. We had decided that we wanted to try out for the team together.

“Sorry I’m late,” she calmly said.

“It’s okay. Let’s just go in here and show these guys what we’re made of,” I said while high fifing her. We walked into the gym and saw that all eyes turned to us, curiously. Jessie raised her eyebrow and looked at me. I shrugged my shoulders and sat down, she followed my lead. I continually stared at the ground, unable to meet the curious stares.

“This isn’t cheerleading practice, you know,” someone shouted at me. I turned to stare at the person who acknowledged me.

“I know,” I stated coldly.

“Well then, why don’t you save, you and your friend, the embarrassment and leave. Ok?”

I snorted to myself. Devin thinks he’s all that and a bag of chips. Okay, so you’re probably wondering who the hell is he? Well, he’s the one and only Mr. Popularity. He’s arrogant, cocky, and rich. Girls would do anything for him if they had the chance. Oh, and let’s not forget that he’s a player. He goes out with girls left and right, and ends up breaking their hearts in the end. So do you think I’m going to let him tell me what to do? Hell no!

I walked over to him and told him, “Let’s go then.” I then went over on the court and grabbled a ball.

“What?” he asked looking at me quizzically.

“Since you think you’re better than me on the court, prove it.”

He sighed loudly as he got up. He was about 6 ft 2, having a little advantage over me. He then, stood in front of me and leaned down and said, “Don’t say I didn’t warn you,”

I rolled my eyes dramatically.

Always let them get the first point. Let them think they’re better than you, so you can prove them wrong.

I smiled to myself as I remembered one of the things daddy told me.

I pushed the ball into his chest, and bent my knees.

I watched as he bounced the ball and pushed into me as he made a shot. 1-0.

The boys on the bleachers screamed as he made the shot.

Jessie smiled at me. She knew exactly what I was doing. I actually taught her that trick and it worked every time. He passed me the ball, just as forcefully as I did and stood in front of me. I bounced the ball in my hand and pushed into him, running into to the goal and shot a 3 point shot. I turned around to him and saw his mouth drop open. I turned to the bleachers and saw Jessie grinning like crazy, while the other guys were just as shocked as Devin was. I smiled gleefully to myself, while thinking: It’s Showtime!

--

I was winning. The score was 9-5. I needed one more shot and I will win.

I could tell they were all shocked, mostly Devin. There mouths dropped every time I made a shot. But, he did get some shots past me.

I bounced the ball slowly, trying to come up with a strategy, but before I could finish thinking, I felt the ball being snatched from me. My mouth dropped open, shocked. He smirked at me, amused by the whole situation. Well I didn’t see him smirking when I was shooting all those baskets, did you?

“That’s no fair. I was thinking,”

“You have no time to think.” he told me.

I mumbled some words under my breathe and snatched the ball away from him.

I bounced the ball, slowly, and shot it without even moving my feet.

His mouth dropped open for the thousandth time today.

I closed my eyes and prayed that it went in. The next thing I heard was SWOOSH!

“Woohoo!” I yelled. “I won,”

I looked at Jessie and she pointed towards the left. Confused, I turned around and saw Coach standing there, great just great.

Authors Note: Well, I hope you like the chapter, I’ve introduced new character, and there’s many more to come. I PROMISE this time the next chapter will be longer. So, I hope you enjoyed it enough to review it. (I’ve had this chapter done for a while now but I’m so concentrated on my other story I sometimes forget about this one!)
