My Task

Take a man and beat him down
crush his will into the ground
break his spirit till there’s nothing left
leave him hollow and bereft

These are the things that this world lives for
I don’t want it, I want more
I want a peace that only God brings
I want to live for heavenly things

The price has been paid, my life’s no longer mine
by His blood so precious and divine
I’m in His hands completely safe
here on earth I patiently wait

I do the task He charged me with
showing the world that He’s no myth
He’s as real as you and me
and for you He hung on that tree

He died on the cross so you could live
call on His name and He will forgive
no bells or whistles or noisy fanfare
just you, Jesus, and the sinner’s prayer
