It was nine in the afternoon in the land of Gumdrops, and many a sugary people were out doing pleasant things such as gardening and socializing with the other members of their clandestinely sweet community.

However, as mentioned above, that's what many people were doing, and as we all know many is not all.

On the surface, the confectionery city seems at peace, all is well; or so it seems, but if one were to look closely at the licorice vines hanging from the eaves, through the sugar glass windows to which the taffeta curtains cleave, you would notice a sad little girl, gazing out, past the sugar glass windows with the taffeta curtains, past the licorice vines into the house that belonged to the Burton's.

Now, you think, “What's so special, about this little house that rests on top of the hill which belongs to the family Burton?”

Well, not many people know, in fact only two, that the reason for such sorrow was taboo.

You see, for in the land of Gumdrops there were only two rules, and two rules over all.

One was to smile, be sweet and not frown.

The other was the style of name which would fit the town.

That is, one should be named after something sweet, whether apples or sweet tarts, strawberries or candy hearts, as longs as the name was sugary all was well.

Alas, but now, one family was odd, and the family by the name of Burton fit the facade. So now to this day, the family by the name of Burton live a top the shadowy hill, under the sour lemon tree, shunned from all society, no longer able to participate in glee.

A/N: OK. This is just the prologue, please keep that in mind! If you like it don't be afraid to leave a review, I won't bite! I'd like at least ONE review in order for me to continue.
