“Wrath of the High-Maintenance Girlfriend”
“George, tell Isabella you like her.” Max said to his friend, who had just rejoined the group after suffering an unpleasant case of diarrhea in the Wal-Mart restroom.
Earlier that evening, Max had told his girlfriend, Isabella Rosewater, that she wasn’t “high-maintenance”. George scoffed at this and laughed—he disagreed. Things had been tense ever since.
“I like you.” George said, mechanically, sounding somewhat like a child who had just been scolded and told to apologize.
“You hate me!” Isabella whined.
It was true enough that George wasn’t very fond of her most of the time, but “hate” wasn’t entirely accurate. There were very few people George genuinely hated.
Isabella came from an extremely well-to-do family—she was the favorite daughter of a prominent senator. She was demanding, manipulative, and—if nothing else—mean. However, like most mean people, she wasn’t mean all the time. Mean people know better than to be mean to everyone, at all times; if they did that, they would have no allies for when someone confronts them about their meanness.
There were really only a handful of occasions wherein Isabella had been directly unpleasant towards George himself, and each time he proved that he was not the kind of person who would put up with it. Because of this, she usually tried to keep on his good side—she even paid for the dinner that had given him diarrhea at evening, as it was the night before his birthday. George mostly disliked her for her despicable treatment of other people, namely Max—who was the type of person who would put up with that kind of mistreatment (especially if the sex was good enough, which it was).
“… I have to take a shit again.” George said, excusing himself back to his sanctuary in the filthy Wal-Mart bathroom.
“… I think he had a better time last night with Toby.” Max said, once George was some ways away.

Author's Note: I was not happy when I wrote this. A very demanding, unpleasant woman put me in a bad mood the night before my birthday and I was pissed about that. FYI: This George is the same George from Abortions. The Toby that Max mentions at the end is also the same Toby from Abortions.
