Fake a Smile

Fake a Smile

By Renee Thomas

Life vexes you

Troubles emerge

What to do, what to do?

You’re on the verge

Misery follows you

Encasing your soul

What to do, what to do?

Fake a smile.

Just grin and bear it

It’ll get better

Fake a smile, a laugh

As you glance at his sweater.

He’s long gone now

Just grin and bear it

Get up, fake a smile, be strong, move along.

You sit in your room

All alone

It was just last night

He was on the phone.

Such a tragedy, you mourn

You weep; such a sorrow

And hope to wake from

This nightmare tomorrow

Death has won

The battle is over

But you swear

You’d take that bullet 1,000 times over.

Misery and misery

What to do, what to do?

Just grin and bear it

It’ll get better

Fake a smile, a laugh

As you glance at his sweater.

He’s long gone now

Just grin and bear it

Get up, fake a smile, be strong, move along.
