Just Run

Just Run

By Renee Thomas

Things are far from what you pictures

Too disastrous for words

You can’t bring yourself to face it

Just want to fly like the birds

You would take back your words

But it’s all said and done

He’s left now;

You break into a run

Just run, just run your feelings away

Run through the night and drink through the day

Unable to quit; unable to feel

You grab for the liquor like it’s your last meal.

He couldn’t help you

You were too far to reach

Hateful words, drunken sleep

Walls that were too high to breach.

And now in the night you cry

You couldn’t quit; oh why, oh why

One day you swear you will win

Instead of tequila and sherry and gin

Just run, just run your feelings away

Run through the night and drink through the day

Unable to quit; unable to feel

You grab for the liquor like it’s your last meal

It’s been 8 months now

Away from the booze

When you happen to see

Those familiar shoes

They belong to the one

The one that couldn’t stay

You see him with a girl

And run away.

Just smile, just smile through your tears

Be brave though you’ve seen your worst fears

Able to be strong, able to feel

It’s what’s part of being real.
