i have always made my opinion clear
to you, my mid-september angel.
and you have always at least pretended
to understand my anti-love logic.

so then how can you be the one infiltrating
my stupid mind with images of lips on lips?
you were always the antidote to all my
gushy feelings, since i ‘knew’ you more
deeply than anyone else did.

but now, you have a power over me
that i didn’t expect at all.
and last night, i hadn’t realized yet,
so i fell easily into your dark trap.

of course, darling, i know you didn’t mean to.
you could never hurt me on purpose.

but last night was crazy and bright
and there was a strip of moonshine
coming through the open doors as you
whispered promises to me in your soft
songbird voice.

so if it isn't too bold, i have a favor to ask you.
if this is what i think it is, and you are who
i believe you to be, then forgive me for loving
you, when i barely know the color of your eyes.

(i want you to know,
this is completely unlike me.)
