Remember when we took the box of thin mints
And rode our bikes away from our houses?
We ate them until our stomachs ached.
And remember the Ritz crackers that we
Took and we hid in the tree’s to eat them?
Remember counting brownies to see if
One would be missed if we
Were to eat it?
And the chocolate nesquick powder under my bed
That one summer day?
That was how we used to rebel...
And then you grew up fast,
The year that you smoked in those same trees
And cut your hair off
And spiked it into a mohawk
And the letters you wrote to your parents
Those threatening letters
Remember the cuts on your hands?
And the bottles in your room?
And the pills in your pocket?
And the lies you uttered from your mouth,
Whenever it opened?
But nowadays
There are no more pills
And there is no smoking in the trees
And the scars on your hands fade, just like mine.
And there’s no bottles in your room.
Now the bottle’s in my hand
And this boy by my side
You’ve got one too.
We’ll always have those
Memories of when it was just you and me
In those tree’s
With the Ritz cracker crumbs
On our sleeves.
Even though we’ll never feel that way again
We’ll never forget it,
As long as we’re living.
