You're a long way from Home

Took a plane out to Rome

Left your skin but you still have your bones

Took a train to Paris

Where love wasn't what it seemed

So you sent your questions out to sea

Where you learned how to kiss

Without ever touching lips

Yelling your promises out from the ships

Then you sailed down to Africa

Where beads of sweat and blood were just

And you hid your heart like a diamond in the rough

Well I would take up after you

If I had a pair of shoes

We would only talk and window shop

Taking long walks across the universe

You're a long way from Washington

You miss the rain and cleansing floods

That washed away your armor of mud

Saw the birds and the bees

In Brazilian cherry trees

You clamored up their trunks to feel the cooling breeze

Where you were blown way off course

To the temples and the torches

You prayed and begged the gods to take your remorse

Until you saw the northern lights

Sung this song as your birthright

Causing all the stars to glisten in the night

Well I will take up after you

I have made a pair of shoes

So we will only talk and window shop

Taking long walks across the universe
