Moonlit Change

The moon is rising
It is a perfect sphere
Covered by clouds
The change is near

One lone man
Panting in pain
Hunched on his knees
Slowly losing his brain

His clothes are ragged
His hair is a mess
His jaw is clenched
But he’s not hurting any less

The clouds are parting
The moon shines through
It’s beams light the man
And his change is due

His bones begin melt
And mold a new frame
His nails thicken to claws
And he grows a ruffled mane

His eyes change to yellow
His screams turn to howls
His teeth are now pointed
Inside his long jowls

He now walks on all fours
There’s pride in his stance
His nose is now wet
And his hearing’s enhanced

He smells at the ground
Looking appraised
He’s searching for something
And his ears are raised

Finally a familiar scent
He can easily track
It’s the smell of the werewolf
It’s the smell of his pack.

His thoughts are untamed
As he searches around
He hears in the distance
A summoning sound

He raises his snout
High up in the air
He howls to his pack
That soon he’ll be there

He follows their calls
So fast is his roam
He has found his pack
And now he is home.
